We've been using TS, and now TS2, for lke 10 years for various FPS and simulations. It is extremely easy to set up, use, and find a server if you need one. I keep vent on hand to PUG HA, but that's about it. Couldn't care less about resources as they're both loaded on my second coimp.

YOU WIN
or buy a new computer so you dont have lag anymore!
btw GW = vent, any FPS = TS

TS has horrible sound quality. I don't like using it, I have it installed in case of... but since I'm generally on Vent with friends I haven't used TS in over a year now.

I use TS, but my guild uses Ventrillo. I despise Ventrillo's interface for whatever reason, so I just sit in my friend's free TS server and talk to them. I've never noticed a difference in sound quality, I guess Ventrillo is just what caught on in GW, which is VERY strange, considering that TS was packaged with the GW Collector's Edition...

You can easily turn it off, you know -- on both applications. Just browse the Options panels and you'll find it in no more than 30 seconds.

Well, i have always had my own TS, and always will, i also have a Vent
Me personally i prefer TS, the interface is ugly yes, but much better in terms of being an admin/owner
Sound Quality has always been an issue for some with TS
IMO the quality is just fine if u max it out, YES u can get better with Vent if u max that, BUT it uses way more bandwith as well
Just like the OP i am using Linux alot, so naturally i prefer TS since they have a working Linux client
and not like Ventrilo that has been in development for like what, 10 years ?
Either way its mostly personal preferance imo
And with TS3 in development atm, i say death to Ventrilo
TS3 will be far superior to Ventrilo with crossplatform support
And sorry, but anyone saying TS causes lag or lags with ur games, fix ur rig
i have an OLD P4 3ghz, i never have any lag issues in Win or Linux
More info on TS3 here , http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=teamspeak3

Are they actually making a Linux client, or is that a joke to get us to leave them alone lol. They were getting ready to release the client in 2005, so I guess we only have a few more years to wait.
Another Linux user, which distro do you use?

I have both TS and vent and am definitly a TS fan, and not just because thats what my clan server is. If you crank the codecs TS has excellent quality with negligible bandwidth usage. The text box thinger at the bottom is handy for passing links and keeping an eye on the activity (I dont know of a similar feature in vent aside from the chat window for passing links), and channel discriptions are nice. Admin abilities are decent. I REALLY wish TS had the ability to modify individual people's sound, but hey, cant have everything (til TS3 anyway).

in ventrillo there is an option that makes everyone that joins that channel soundat the same volume, and you can adjust the volume of people individually as well
in teamspeak you canonly adjust individuals i think, forsure not the whole server

I have been using both for a while now and I find the sound quality to be the same... except TS is way easier to set-up for a beginner... On the other hand, ventrilo seems to have much more server options.
